According to NIQ's recently released 'K-Beauty Global Expansion' report, K-Beauty has achieved remarkable sales growth globally, up 53% year-on-year and a cumulative 131% over the past two years, reshaping the global beauty industry landscape. This growth is attributed to the synergy of innovative products, social commerce, and digitally-driven consumer demand.
The European market also recorded a sales growth rate of 58% year-on-year, and the strength of online channels continues in North America, where e-commerce accounts for 76% of K-Beauty sales. This demonstrates K-Beauty's successful diversification of its export markets beyond China, into various regions including North America, Europe, and Latin America.
The industry assesses that K-Beauty has moved beyond its past reliance on specific countries or channels, entering a 'Phase 3' growth stage where regions, channels, and product categories are expanding simultaneously. Expansion into adjacent categories such as derma, hair care, and wellness, beyond skincare, is projected to be the main driver of future growth.
This data suggests that K-Beauty brands can achieve sustained growth by accurately identifying the evolving needs of global consumers, and by utilizing tailored strategies for each market and leveraging digital channels.
