Lesson 1 of 36
The right order of makeup steps
The same products can look patchy in the wrong order. Remember two rules: wet before dry, and big areas before small details.

1Skin
Skincare, then sunscreen
Toner, a light moisturizer and, in the morning, sunscreen make up your prep. Give it 2–3 minutes to settle so the base doesn’t pill.
Toner · moisturizer · sunscreen
2Skin
Base, concealer, then powder
Even out the whole face with foundation or cushion first, then conceal only what still shows. Finish all creams and liquids before powder — cream on top of powder goes patchy.
Foundation or cushion · concealer · powder
3Brows
Brows frame the face
Doing brows before eyes tells you how high the shadow should go. Fill only the gaps with hair-like strokes and brush through once.
Brow pencil · spoolie
4Eyes
Eyes: shadow, liner, mascara
Lay down shadow first, then liner between the lashes, and curl and coat lashes last. Mascara first means shadow fallout lands on it.
Eyeshadow · eyeliner · lash curler · mascara
5Cheeks
Cheeks: blush, then highlight
Cream blush goes before powder, powder blush after — the same texture rule. Highlighter last, only on top of the cheekbones.
Blush · highlighter
6Lips
Lips go last
Choosing the lip color after you can see the whole face keeps it balanced. Balm first; a setting spray at the very end helps everything stay put.

lightbulbTips
- Texture rule: wet (cream, liquid) before dry (powder). That alone prevents most patchiness.
- Wait about 30 seconds between layers so the next one doesn’t drag.
errorCommon mistake
Patting on cushion before sunscreen has set makes the base roll up into little bits.
health_and_safetyTry any new product on your inner arm first. If redness, itching or irritation appears, stop using it and consult a dermatologist. Keep eye products out of the eyes.
